Scottish
sculpor, David Marshall lived in his adopted homeland, Southern Spain for over thirty
years. Attracted by the wonderful light, the climate and the countryside, it is easy to see the artistic
appeal. Working from his studio in the mountain village of Benahavis, near
Marbella, he is a prolific designer, who takes his inspiration from the natural things that surround him - the
bark, trees, the undulations of a rock or the erosion of wind and rain on the
earth. After staging several successful sculpture exhibitions, David began
designing objects for the home in brass and aluminium. The BRONZE AGE
COLLECTION, is his latest work:gifts for family, friends and corporate
clients. The ideas are endless, with handcrafted quality the watchword. David also continues to make sculptures in limited editions
as well as exhibit his works world wide. Always seeking new challenges, David Marshall likes to combine other
materials with metal. An inveterate traveller, who loves ancient cultures,he seeks out arts and crafts all around the
world. And so,glass ,wood and iron are incorporated with the brass and aluminium -all variations on the hand- crafted theme that is so important to
him. In this world of robotic production, how refreshing to find that the artist and
artisan, true to their crafts, still exist. Using techniques of metal
casting, daring back to Roman times, David's artisans turn his artistic concepts into reality in the studios and workshops
in Benahavis. Each model is hand - cast in sand, or in lost wax, if the design is very
intricate. Molten brass or aluminium is then poured into sand. Next comes the painstaking finishing process to produce items of the highest
quality. Items created today to become collector's pieces
tomorrow.
